Do I Have to Take a Test to Become a Licensed Barber?

After completing the Class A Barber course at Quality Barber College in Houston, you’ll need to take a state licensing exam to become a licensed barber. Our goal is to ensure that every student who goes through our program has the knowledge and skills to pass the exam and earn their license.

The licensing exam consists of two parts: a written exam and a practical exam. The written portion tests your understanding of various topics, from basic sanitation practices to more advanced subjects like chemical treatments. The practical exam allows you 180 minutes to demonstrate your abilities in seven barber services, including shampooing, permanent waving, shaving, hair shaping, and facial and chemical services. You’ll need to bring your own supply kits, models, and mannequins for this portion of the test. A panel of industry experts will assess your performance.
