How Can A Hairstylist Become A Barber?
Can you be a barber with a cosmetology license?
A cosmetology license is not the same as having a barber license. Cosmetologists are not able to offer the same services as a barber. It is possible to hold both a cosmetic license and barbering license at the same time. This is a common practice so that individuals are able to offer their clients both cosmetology and barbering services.
What is barbering crossover?
Barbering crossover is an educational program that allows a licensed cosmetologist to cross over into barbering without having to spend as much time working on their education as someone without a cosmetology license. At Quality Barber College in Houston we offer a Cosmetology Crossover to Class A Barber course for our students. This course requires 300 clock hours and can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. For full-time students this course can be completed in 8 weeks, and 15 weeks for students who are enrolled part-time.
What is the Cosmetology to Barber Crossover Program?
The Cosmetology to Barber Crossover Program consists of 300 hours of instruction. The course includes a combination of theory classes, practical mannequin work, and actual hands on clientele practice. The program will ensure that basic skills to more advanced skills are gained as individuals proceed through the course. The course also ensures that students are also prepared for the State Board licensing applications and evaluations.
Can a cosmetologist shave their clients?
A cosmetologist can cut hair, including facial hair; however, they are not legally allowed to shave using a razor. This includes safety razors, such as the ones we use to shave at home.
Can a cosmetologist use a straight razor?
A straight razor is a long blade set in a handle that folds open and closed. Straight razors were invented in 17th-century England and were the primary tool for manual (as opposed to electric) shaving until the rise of the “safety razor” in the mid 20thcentury. However, recently straight razors have been making a big comeback, and for good reason. They offer many benefits and advantages, including a closer shave. A cosmetologist cannot use a straight razor without first obtaining a barber’s license.
